doesnt ad hom flaw indicate an attack on the person making the arg, not as this one seems to due by appeal to the authors authority??
i chose E bc i thought the arg. was randomly choosing to believe the author over the critics bc his expertise, so holding his opinion to a higher standard

Meh. It's the same flaw, whether it's an appeal or an attack.
As for (E), when you hold someone to a higher standard, you are judging them more harshly.
For example, as I write this, my son is 14 and my daughter is 11. If I were to give them both the same spelling test, I would hold the boy's work to a higher standard than hers; I'd expect him to know how to spell more words.
