Hey Dave, I understand why D is the right answer but I am having a hard time figuring out why C is wrong. Can you explain?

It may help to think about what happens if (C) isn't true. What if there were some other neurotransmitter called schlutamate? It wouldn't really change things here, because we already know that glutamate kills nerve cells, whether or not schlutamate does.
So it doesn't really help to know that glutamate is the only killer present; we already know that it can kill nerve cells if it leaks out. The question is rather whether there's any other way it can get to the nerve cells.
Clearer?
