I chose E too (ugh). After re-reading it, I noticed answer choice A had stronger language (opposed to E). Answer choice E says "binary oppositions do not play an essential structuring role in SOME films...." which could mean only 1 film's role failed to have binary oppositions; this could mean that every single OTHER film DID have binary oppositions. This is my guess.

Could line 8 be considered the thesis instead (or as well)?

Just checking for understanding, I like some other people chose A because I thought the passage was saying it was that answer choice vs E. I thought the passage was saying it was those characteristics in A and E was wrong. I thought the whole point of the story was to show that it was different than sociopolitical commitment not in addition to. What are some startegies for knowing that the reading is saying it is in addition to? I expected the lsat to say in addition to but not subtly. What are tips for attacking articles that have the soft “but”?
