Hi Dave!
I approached this question as a sampling error. Determining that the conclusion was established by only this one study (not established as representative) and providing another study with similar results gives further support.
Do you think it is better to view this as a causal error? Maybe the right answer is more likely to eliminate other possible causes, and in this question it is a coincidence that it provides another study also?

No, I think it's totally fair to view it through the sampling lens. Remember that there is often more than one good way of entering an argument. What's important is to have that ready point of entry so that your work is more automatic and confident.
