I got the diagram for this one, but picked B.
Is B wrong because it says 'MANY mass extinctions', instead of just 'mass extinctions'? It is the only difference I can see between answers A and B.
If B did not say MANY, then A and B would be saying the exact same thing, correct?
(without the word 'many'):
A: L --> causal evidence
B: L --> causal evidence

Could you apply the negate test of both answer choices (A) and (B)?

No—don't do it!
That test is useful for finding correct answers to Necessary Assumption questions. It is inappropriate (and will not help) for Sufficient Assumption questions.
