hey dave i was confused when they asked about the places in Q12 the told us about P so i got this wrong when i choose 3 thinking they were asking about the other option that were fixed beside P

Always take the plain denotation of the question! In other words, if they'd wanted to know how many other than P, they would have asked precisely that. Since they asked for how many of the six we know about, your answer needs to reflect that we know about 4 of the 6.

For question 8, don't we immediately know that M cannot be before G because G has 4 more letters after it, therefore G can only be in spot 5/6?

It's definitely true that M cannot be after G in this question, since G must have every other item before it. How immediate that knowledge is may be the question, I suppose.
