Would it be correct to eliminate answer choice E because of its load bearing nature, or is its lack of effect on the argument when negated the reason it should be eliminated?

It would be correct to be highly suspicious of (E) for its load-bearing language (see more about language expectations here).
It's correct to eliminate (E) because our negate test shows that it isn't necessary.
Make sense?

I don't understand how answer choice a and e were chosen. Let alone understand the relations between the two diagrams. Could you explain?
