So, while I thought about your reasoning for choosing D, I ultimately eliminated A based on the reason that altitude measures ONE thing between TWO different things. Whereas wisdom in answer choice A measures ONE thing (wisdom) within ONE person.
So, technically the daughter could be wiser, if she had started off more wise than her mother?
Would this kind of reasoning get me into trouble later?

I think that boils down to the same idea (that wisdom can't be counted). That we know that density is the same for all the air at sea level is another way of saying we can count it. Same with tree rings. That we don't know the starting conditions for wisdom makes it different from the other two.
So I think we're saying essentially the same thing, and that you're doing just fine.
