I chose C for this question and even though I understand why E is correct, can you explain why C is not? I was going back and forth between the two and I chose C because it had the word "cause" in it.

In order for (C) to be correct, there must be some event that we established as having occurred.
However, there is no such event!
Here, we claimed that the ice sheet melted, and we offered two possible causes for that melting, but we certainly haven't established that it happened.
In fact, that's the whole problem with the argument—just because a melted ice sheet offers one way to explain the fossil evidence doesn't mean that it's; the only way to explain that evidence!
Clearer?
