A is saying that the original statement was for the most part correct. This would indicate that the statement is true, but the subjects still wouldn't know if the statement was true?

No; (A) is saying that the participants' beliefs were mostly correct. So whether or not the later statement was true, their beliefs before that statement were mostly true.
This of course doesn't tell us whether they would hold onto their beliefs even without evidence; we don't know from (A) if their true beliefs were (or were not) based on evidence.
