PT 63 RC

I just retook pt 63 and I got -6 on RC this time and the last time I took it I got -10. I feel like if I'm getting -6 on a rc that I've done before, I'm going to get like -15 on the real test.

I just don't understand how to improve on this section, This time around I got the same questions wrong I got and a couple wrong that I got right the first time around. This section is just so random it makes no sense to me. I tried the post it notes method and prephrasing an answer for each question, I read for structure, and keep a note of all the read actively list, but the questions just screw me over bad. I just hate how there isn't a straight methodological way of doing RC like there is for LG and LR, it's frustrating me so much that I can't figure out how to do this section consistently.

btw I retook pt 64's rc as my 5th section and got -11 on that!! the first time I took it I got -9.. makes no sense how I can get more wrong the second time around.

Hey, there,

I've answered your question in this week's mailbag. Today's mailbag is recording number SIXTY

You'll notice that there are vertical lines running through the playback bar; each line represents a section break, so you can quickly jump to your question if you'd like (although you may have to wait for the entire video to load in order to navigate within playback).

Best,

d

sorry bro i didn't mean to hurt your feelings! I guess I was just upset after that pt and ranted and it came off wrong.

You're method is great and that is why I continue to use it, I think it's just me that sucks at this section. I get all the main point and author's purpose questions right but I notice I get the most strongly supported and fetch questions, like the ones that ask you for what the example is used for or what purpose a so and so term served wrong. I have a hard time going back to the passage and verifying answer choices for fetch inference questions because I often times don't see what I'm looking for. And the wording in the answer choices just confuses me where I can't understand what it's referring to in the passage. I always get like minus 1-3 per passage but sometimes I'll have an entire section where I only get minus 2. Then I'll take another section and I'll have -10 again right when I think I killed it but find out my interpretation of the passage was completely wrong. So it's just very inconsistent for me because sometimes I'll just know exactly what the passage said and other times I won't.

I guess in terms of LR and LG, by straight methodological way I was trying to get at how I feel you have provided me with hacks for that lol. I feel like I have successfully hacked those sections and now I just make stupid careless mistakes and occasionally will have no idea what certain arguments are saying but other than that I am very confident about those sections. It's like there's patterns and the right answers just jump out at me sometimes on LR, but that never happens on RC. On the other hand for RC I just am ridiculously volatile. I guess I have no choice but to keep practicing with the read actively list because I think it's just a personal issue right now. After doing this course I went from getting minus 6-10 on LR to actually sometimes getting minus 0 and it is now my favorite section lol. Anyhow, I really do appreciate your help and your RC method too, I just need to get better at reading under time constraints, because I am a slow reader.. never reading books besides for school is biting me in the ass now :/

Oh, no!

I was kidding, Nemo - really. I hate to think I made you feel guilty this weekend. My feelings are fine; I meant to tease you a little bit, is all.

I think the very last bit of advice I gave at the end is the most important for you this weekend. If we had more weeks, I really think we could make serious headway, but that notwithstanding, I see you putting your best foot forward and nailing this effing test to the wall on Monday.

I'm not sure if you've seen it, but I made a "let's kick the LSAT in the junk" podcast to get you psyched for test day. iTunes seems to be slow uploading it, but you can listen to it here if you'd like.

Let me know if there's any way I can help this weekend,

d

yea I think I'm going to slow down on RC and just try to get as many questions as I can even if that means I have to guess on the last 3 or 4. thanks for that podcast, I think my itunes downloaded it automatically, I'm going to check it out in a bit.
