Conditional Game rules that are never "triggered"?

Has there ever been a game on the LSAT where the sufficient condition of a rule can't be satisfied? In other words, if we're given a rule that says "If Marcy wears the red hat, then Bobby wears the blue trousers", can we take it on faith that there is at least one valid solution where Marcy wears the red hat and Bobby wears the blue trousers?

I'm only talking about the "global" rules included in the overall description of the game, not rules that might be introduced within the individual questions.

Thanks,
Scott

Off the top of my head, I can think of only one instance of that particular situation having happened, and it's from a pretty old test (PT 34). In the last game there, L couldn't ever be at Souderton (fun - see if you can figure out why).

That it happened once means that it's possible, but it should never pose any problems to you at all; if you follow the rules, you will just find that the disallowed action results in a break to one of the rules.

Similar scenarios arise all the time with elements that we come to learn could never be "selected" - you've seen a bunch of those questions already ("Which of the following fruits could not be among those Stanley puts up his but?").

Best,

Thanks, Dave. I do have to say that I'm amazed you could answer that off the top of your head!

My thinking was that (using my example above), if I saw a blanket question along the lines of "Which of the following represents a complete list of people, any one of whom could wear the red hat?", it would be nice to be able to instantly strike any answer that didn't contain Marcy. But you're correct - a straightforward application of the rules and the normal strategy will find the answer as well. I'm still trying to break myself of trying to find key inferences and shortcuts.

Well, I remembered the game off the top of my head - I had to flip through our manual to find which test it came from.

Remember that putting those questions till last and using your prior work will go a long way (often all the way!) toward telling you which answer choice is complete.
