For question 24, I put D. I was torn between E and D. I understand why E is right but don't quite understand why D is wrong?

The passage doesn't rank the reasons that people are forced to flee their homes, nor even tell us what any of those other reasons are, so we can't demonstrate within the passage that persecution is the primary reason.

How would one answer/textual evidence of Q24 if they didn’t know the definition of “linchpin”?
So, from the second sentence we know persecution is the "___________ of the definition of a refugee."
The third sentence then says a refugee is defined as "any person facing persecution." The fifth sentence tells us that women who are persecuted are thereby eligible for asylum.
From this context, we can see that persuecution is the main feature of defining a refugee (indeed, it's the only feature of the definition we're given).
