I am confused on how you determined those placeholders before you started answering questions.

I guess what I am asking is how did you determine that J/S was in while G/H were out.

For question 7 you put S and J in the forest, but I thought it was a rule that if one was in the forest than the other could not be in the forest.

Can you explain how rule 1 and 4 differ beyond them using different birds. Its seems like they are using similar lang in saying that if J is not in the forest, S are. And rule 1 saying if H are in the forest, G are not. I'm just failing to understand how rule 4 allows for J and S to be in the forest together.

I felt like I reached critical mass on the binary grouping with placeholders from this example. Thank you. The similar problem with the video store and new and used CDs put me in a funk. This was a slightly less complicated version of that and it fell into place.

Ok, I don't want to sound stupid but I'm just a little confused on # 7, and it may be the wording. This is a must be true question so I picked S. I put at most two other kinds of birds as could be. This is my thinking: According to rule 2, J would not be required to be in the forest is what I understand, so if J is out because it could be, then S would be in, so I chose A as a must be true. If it would have been a "could be true", I would have chosen E. Just wanted some thoughts on this. I'm sure I'm way off. Thank you so much for all your help! This course has been amazing!

Thank you for the quick response. I think that was my confusion because I understand M is in, but because rule 2 states that both J and M don't need to be in to make H, I interpreted that to mean "could be true", which would only include S, which I picked. I do understand the logic if both are in and that J and S can be together, just confused on the must be true, verses could be true. I looked at the possible total birds in as you state as could be, and that according to what was contained in the question, S would be mandatory.....?

Totally got it, sorry for my confusion. I don't know why my brain was obsessed with leaving S in, when J could have been chosen too. I think I was hung up with rule 2 and that did not register. Once again, thank you SO much! This is totally clear now!!!!
Now I feel stupid!

Thanks for the encouragement!!! You just made my day!!!
